Discussion about 82 Pioneer Street
A river runs through it? Word is that an underground stream runs along Pioneer Street and that the ground/basement floors routinely flood during rains. Witness the multiple pipes running from the sump pumps in these buildings. Anyone care to comment?
Further inquiries reveal that Pioneer Street is a "fill" street-- it was something else before it was filled in to create a street-- namely a canal. Perhaps this accounts for the water issue. Also with the water overflow problem comes a sewage backup issue which has for reasons I can't fathom worsened post--Sandy. Any ideas why?
Further internet research turned up this nugget about Post-Sandy conditions on Pioneer Street:
"In some cases, residents were unable to occupy their homes and businesses were unable to operate. Either water damage compromised structural integrity or critical mechanical systems were rendered dysfunctional and unable to support habitable spaces. This issue was particularly problematic on Pioneer Street in Red Hook." From a Sept. 2014 report by the NYC Dept of Planning for NYC Mayor's Office of Environmental Remediation entitled "Existing Conditions and Brownfields Analysis, Red Hook, Brooklyn"
