Discussion about 200 East End Avenue in Yorkville
Hello... I read this article about the catastrophe this coop sustained from Sandy. Does anyone have insight into what has been done in the past 3 years to prevent this type of catastrophe from happening again? Or is the building chronically at risk regardless of any precautionary steps? http://www.habitatmag.com/Publication-Content/Building-Operations/2013/2013-February/One-Co-op-s-Experience-with-Superstorm-Sandy

Everything's fine.
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM NOW.
The north side of the building, opposite Asphalt Green, is downhill of the south side of the building. The water came in the north side through the ramp down to the garage/basement and the basement windows (only on the north side). There was absolutely no flooding from the south side of the building. They have installed Florida Storm Doors for the garage and ramp down to the basement so the water will not enter from the ramp again. (That is what they use in hurricane areas.) Since the north side basement windows were at ground level, they were all bricked in. The flood insurance company is satisfied and has not given them the hefty premium increases that other buildings were given.
They have also installed a new bicycle room, new storage room, totally new laundry room, and a health club in the basement. They made sure that all the flood abatement was well tested before all renovations were completed.
