Tipping Supers as a Condo Renter

Discussion about
I've seen a lot of advice on this matter but I cant seem to figure it out. I just moved to the city last year so I've never dealt with Supers before. We tip our Super for the holidays, but we just got a new Super. He just fixed a hole in our sink, took like 5 minutes. We rent in a condo unit, so i understand in a condo building the super is only responsible for like the hallways and general building stuff, not individual unit repairs. But am I supposed to 'tip' him the equivalent of what I would've paid a plumber?? That's like what $150, and the reason I didn't call a plumber. Help!

Give him a $20 gift card from Starbucks, or similar, then your usual for holiday. I don't think he will be offended. There is a chance he has a deal with the owner who will pay a fee.

Just tip min $20 per trip but cash for that 5 minute trip. $50 if he spent 30 minutes or more in your apartment. More than that, the condo owner is supposed to pay him as it is real repair. You are tipping him so that the stuff gets done right away rather than having to wait for the owner to get it fixed. Do not forget to tip on holidays.

Mercer is correct. And cash is king--no gift cards please!
