Discussion about
I have locked in rates with 2 lenders as there was confusion on my part about their offers and since it was fed rate hike day I just went with a friend's suggestion to lock in 2 rates. I have only filled up the application but not anything else. Now if I withdraw from one of the rate locks am I liable to the one I do not go with? The 2 offers are now very similar so I am at a point of indifference, but I guy I said no to is now threatening legal action

Read your rate lock agreement and application fine print with the lender. I think consumer protection is pretty high and a bank will not sue you despite somewhat unethical behavior on your part.

When the Fed hikes interest rates, it does not necessarily mean that mortgage rates will go up.
Mortgage rates are tied to the yield on the ten year treasury note.

I doubt if you will be sued.

Rate locks are a one way option that costs whatever you paid for it. If rates move favorably, tell the lender to meet it or move on unless the lock fee/committed financing does not make it worthwhile.

Is the person who is threatening you the owner of the lending institution? If not, chances are he's making these childish statements without approval from his managers. All you need to go is up the chain, and I'm sure they will deal very harshly with this loose cannon!
