Discussion about
I'm starting a new thread in respect of convenience. Old thread at https://streeteasy.com/talk/discussion/45630-are-we-having-fun-yet-corona
That's helpful, flarf.
My garage (Lex @ 58th), part of Icon, effectively closed back at the end of March due to lack of traffic, and merged
operations with another Icon location farther east. They will retrieve cars from 58th, but are directing all returning/new parking to the other location. I gave up my space last month, so I'm sure they'd be happy to see you bring a new car in.
Separately, I know city dwellers who rent a car every weekend to go upstate and on trips, as in their math, it's cheaper than owning and garaging a vehicle.
I think NYC will suffer from the past few decades of anti-vehicle policies. Especially in smaller retail, which it absolutely needs to recover.
Sure, we really need more bicyclists who blow through red lights, go the wrong way on one way streets and are a major health hazard to every pedestrian.
Plenty of street parking available uptown from 5th to Lex.
I did the weekend rental thing back in the day. Worked great until the kids and their car seats came along. I would pick up in the suburbs (much friendlier agents, greater ability to talk your way into the car of your choosing) at $30-40/day and return near Grand Central.
I rode Citibike earlier today and went the right way on all the streets and stopped at all the red lights.
I wrote this proposal to the past 2 mayor's and got no response:
Put chip readers in every (or just random) traffic lights and demand any rental bicycles be chipped. Every time a Citybike or other runs a red light or goes down a 1-way street the wrong way, issue a $1 fine. You already have their billing info so collection isn't a problem. It's all hardware so you don't need bodies to enforce it. Almost no one is going to go through the trouble of contesting them (only allow contesting individual summons, not bulk, and charge a $2 filing fee). Considering most do this 10 times each time they take one this should pay for itself in the first year. For those who would are "then they will just stop doing it" my response is "mission accomplished."
Thank you 30
