Noise at 99 John Street - What Can I Do

I live at 99 John Street and they seem to have turned one of the decks into a disco and are having loud parties that are creating severe noise disturbances. RockRose is the owner and apparently does not care, even though the owners and tenants are being severely bothered by this. The music is blaring through the neighborhoods. I knew RockRose was unscrupulous but I did not think they would interfere with the quiet enjoyment of life in the Financial District. What should I do? Call the police? Any suggestions?

Check out the NYC noise code and if you think they are violating, call 311.

I live in the neighborhood and heard all the noise as well. It is amazing that Rockrose would allow this given that they are still trying to sell units at 99 John and have several other buildings in the Financial District.

One thing I like about the neighborhood is that it is generally very quiet and peaceful. It's no place for outdoor weddings or whatever it was going on there. I've noticed that that particular terrace has been the source of noise before. A couple of nights ago, there were a couple of guys yelling back and forth from there. Really low class.

Take it inside, Rockrose!!!!

play dirty. Try messing with the locks to the deck door.

Alternatively put mustard on everything just before people would show up for the disco. Cutting turnout is the best solution for long term

If enough 311 calls come in, from different people (they can track the number called from) something will get done. You've got to make it a "squeaky wheel"--they get oil.

Is this someone's private terrace, or are we talking about the 4th-floor lounge/5th-floor community deck?

Either way, if you tell someone at the Sale Office that this is creating enough problems for the residents, they might pay some attention thinking that the noise problem, if made public, is going to interfere with their efforts to sell... You might want to point out that you also read about the noise problems on one of the NYC real-estate message boards. This might prove more effective than calling 311, who usually does little to help you.

hi..are u talking about the noise at the 110 john restuarnt or actually in the building ? if it's noise int eh buliding, send an email to buy99john@gmail.com.. and we will address it with the managment.

if it's at 110 john or the irish bar on cliff, we usually call the resturnat directly before calling 311 and then the police.

There is a lot of noise coming from one of the terraces in this building. It usually comes from one of the terraces. Usually music, one night a band. Tonight it sounded like they were magnifying a movie soundtrack via speakers. OBNOXIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't the management do anything about this???

So glad I saw this, I was about to make an offer at 99 John.

What time/days does this noise play ... day or night, weekdays or weekends ... I'd like to check it out for myself.

You people who hear it ... which floor are you on, & which streets does your condo face?

Noise is generally at night from 7-10ish, but that is usually when I am home so could be other times.

Try calling one of the 'help me' guys at local news stations. They love these kinds of stories--sometimes even just a call from a news channel can work wonders in resolving issues that haven't gotten good responses from calls to the authorities.

None of these guys wants some pesky reporter sticking a mike in his ugly face and broadcasting it for the entire city to see.

i have a buddy who lives there, and he has similar complaints.

this is one of the reasons why NYC stinks so much. there's way too many noise near residential buildings, and unless you live in a high floor, chances are, you'll be awakened by loud noise quite frequently.

Now that we know who rufus is and where he lives, it is interesting to see these posts where he claims to be in the know about these developments...
