Discussion about
The core of the McCain economic and tax policies are essentially exactly the same as the Bush policies. Will Wall Street start to discount future earnings if it looks like McCain will get elected? How do you calculate in another complete meltdown of our economic infrastructure based on the same exact policies that caused this disaster?

Haven't you been there, the real issue is the landslide election of Obama over and now it's too close to call.

julia you are right - McCains irresponsible tax cuts and his disasterous Republican economic policies are just the thing to fix the economic crisis caused by the irresponsible Bush tax cuts and Republican econoic policies that McCain supported 95% of the time.

oh yeah I forgot uptowngirl that the RNC talking point from the party of accountability is that nothing that happened while the Republicans were in control of all houses of our government is actually their fault nor are the bad outcomes results of their economic policies.

It is always some one elses fault.

Sarah Palin is just the person we need to fix this problem, even though McCain said this morning that the "fundamentals of our economy are strong!"

First let me disclose that I am a registered Democrat will vote for Obama. That being said, I'm not convinced that a Democratic presidency over the past 8 years would have done anything to prevent the financial mess we are in. The likelihood that any administration would have looked at accelerating home price appreciation and concluded that additional regulation was necessary to halt the trend is highly unlikely. I mean, Greenspan would have likely remained in his post regardless of which party won the presidency in 2000 (I think). And, not to put the blame on his shoulders, but he seems the most likely candidate for having had the opportunity to raise a red flag and the clout to bring about significant changes to regulatory oversight.

jasper the Bush administration caused the acceralation of home values in order to cover up their weak economic policies.

The Republicans caused the housing bubble, watched it happen, then while it was happening they kept saying "look at how our policies made this economy strong" I think that they thought that they would run out the clock and hoped that the collapse would happen under the next administration.

Tax policies, regardless of who's been president, have had little to do with the current mess.

petrfitz, please stick to topics you understand instead of posting alarmist nonesense.

Petrfitz - You are so blinded by your partisanship you can't recognize a tree from a bush let alone see the forest. the FNM/FRE problem has been building since the early '90s and mostly with assistance of lawmakers (most prominently Dodd and Frank).

See my post with your name on it. I somehow figure it will have you blowing a gasket (and spewing more partisan tirades). Still, the audience meant was not you but others who might be foolish enough to listen to you.

AVUWS comes in with the typical RNC talking point - blame anything that happened while the republicans were in charge on Clinton! Blame it on Bill take no blame we are the party of responsibility!

Uptowngirl - what is happening now is a result of an artifical housing bubble created by and allowed to happen by the Republicans to cover up for thier weak economic policies. They created a false housing bubble, allowed and encouraged predatory lending, encouraged Americans to "spend" all their equity, to prop up an economy and make their disasterous policies look like they were working.

They hoped to run out the clock and stick this mess on the next administation.

You are such a blind partisan that you cant even see that your "team" screwed the entire country
