Discussion about
I'm seeing condo listing, general discussions etc. Is this site mainly being use by real estate brokers, the general public looking for real estate, or investors? I'm a broker myself.
I am looking for a 2BR condo in Manhattan. I've been using StreetEasy for a while now. Now I seldom go the big real estate agencies such a Prudential, Halstead or Corcoran. What I like about this site is the mapping feature, the search engine, the fact that it pulls all the ads from the other websites, the forum from which I can learn a lot.
I'm a real estate consumer interested in buying in a few years and am for now watching the market. I find this website to be a great perspective to balance out all the other real estate information that floats around the internet.
I'm an out of state broker looking to tap the NYC market for people looking to invest and retire in the south. Would this be a good platform to represent my offerings?
Who uses this site?
It appears to be a lot of jaded NY'ers who think every apt in NYC is overpriced or a piece of crap. I often wonder where the really pissed-off people live.
Me... I'm currently renting in Manhattan, looking to buy in Brooklyn. I've been paying pretty close attention to prices for the last 4 years (I bought & sold a place in that time span.)
I check this site because I bought an apartment as an investment in 2005 and want to see how things are going, especially in my price range ($300s).
I think this site is awesome. I have owned 3 separate condo/coops in the City the past 10 years. I have never had a bad experience in buying and selling. It is a great cite to see what apts are listed, how long they are listed, price drops and reductions, etc in the various coops around the city. I am not a broker/re agent
Don't know about the others, but I'm a potential buyer/renter. This site is the best I've seen yet for becoming reasonably educated on NY real estate.
This is the only site I've ever seen that is "building-aware" and let's you search by zoned public schools. Very nice!
I've been using this site since last spring. I'm an NYC homeowner and am most interested in how the market is doing, and which neighborhoods in particular. I check the site daily and am a big fan because it's the most accurate and complete that I've seen, they are constantly adding new features and seem to be very responsive to input.
I'm a homebuyer
Oops, got cut off: I'm buying a co-op for residential purposes. Likely to hold for 5-7 years, although in my line of work, it's hard to see more than 12 months into the future (usually less).
I'm a homebuyer and am finding this site invaluable.
Downtown folk with lots of money to burn.
I am a homeowen in Manhattan. Just bought last year. I really like using the site to see how things are going. Eventually, I will need to sell.
I am looking to rent a studio with a great layout and nice finishes from a condo owner in Manhattan, and am looking to spend no more than $2000/month. Also hoping to avoid brokers fees. Because it's winter, I'm hoping I'll have some luck. I am a responsible female professional in my late thirties, but because I have chosen to work for a nonprofit, I can't spend the money my friends can on rent.
This site is the best I've seen yet for scoping potential targets. Wish me luck!
Anon above-
You might want to narrow your definition of "Manhattan", cause it's a big town. Isn't this site fee-only rentals?
It sort of tells you where the market is, but not too accurate. The unit I bought at a discount shows a sale price of 10% more than what I actually paid.
broadwayron: they do no-fee rentals... take a look at http://www.streeteasy.com/nyc/rentals/nyc/no_fee:1
I stand corrected. It's been a while since I've looked for a rental, but I don't remember seeing a "no fee" checkbox back then.
I use the site primarily to keep track of new developments.
I think it is mostly people trying to stay in Manhattan who aren't going to, and can't afford to, drop 2-3 million on a place. Seems like it is the 1 mil and under crowd. Me, I'm looking for that elusive 2br 2ba that doesn't end up being 6,000$ a month - like everyone else. I think there are a lot of brokers on this site - and if I were them I'd be scared. This site is far more trustworthy than a lot of brokers I've interacted with.
This site is fantastic because there is no need to go and bounce around all the big name real estate sites anymore to find listings. The NY Times real estate site has become obsolete because it has too many fake listings on it. Here at least I get an address, price history and get to learn how long a place has been on the market. Hint: if a place has been on the market for nearly a year and the price hasn't gone down - either the seller or the broker is far too stubborn to know that the market ain't what it used to be. Approach those listings with caution.
I am renting now and plan to by after the summer, when things have really started to cool.
I am a buyer and find this site bloggers great but do not cover all buying population interests. They are at the upper income earning braket, and very young and overly optimistic because of their youth and their salaries plus bonuses. Most listings are linked to few real estate companies like corcoran, foxwoods kinda makes me wonder if the companies run the site posing as web alternative make believe to their own webpages... real estate world is populated by trolls and fairies

that me laugh for a few different reasons...
good luck.
you don't want it to cool too much though..cause maybe it might mean even your ass is unemployed
only angry people are using this site
AnneC, what the hell is wrong with you? These threads are 18 months old, and your posts add nothing...
