Battery Park City's architecture

Discussion about
Is there a reason why virtually every condo and apartment in battery park city have the same orange color? I feel like I'm in a sea of orange everytime I go there. Developers should put up buildings of different colors and design, instead of giving them the same cookie cutter look. I really hope NYC is able to catch up to Chicago when it comes to architecture.

Sizzlack, even you admit that the architecture in bpc is terribly bland and unoriginal.

NYC's mindset: "Let's make all the buildings in a given area look exactly the same because it will save us money!"

Meanwhile, Chicago is blazing new paths with bold buildings never before seen.

Once again I remind you that people choose where they will live by picking LOCATION first, and building second.

Do you need this tattooed across your forehead?

No matter what Chicago may have, now matter how nice or special or amazing or orgasmic, it is still in Chicago, where none of us want to be. Can you not grasp this?

You really do come off like one of those demented people on the sidewalk with a megaphone screaming about how you just found Jesus and how everyone needs to follow your path or be damned to hell. P S Y C H O.

I raised a point about NYC architecture and real estate, and you resort to ad hominem attacks rather than address the issue. Thanks though, for implicitly admitting that I'm right.

You love this imaginary 'attack' claim huh. Rufus yesterday you had an hour long conversation with yourself (gtt). That qualifies as psychotic. And since you somehow missed my response to your "point about NYC architecture" I will repost:

No matter what Chicago may have, now matter how nice or special or amazing or orgasmic, it is still in Chicago, where none of us want to be. Can you not grasp this?

I'm not gtt. What's hilarious is that no one was able to address gtt because his arguments were spot on. Instead, you guys accused him of being me and vice versa.

Yea because there are oh so many people from Chicago who frequent NYC RE boards at the exact same time and talk about the exact SAME things. Not a chance guy. Nice try though.

Perhaps this should help you understand:

claim |klām|
verb [ reporting verb ]
state or assert that something is the case, typically without providing evidence or proof

Which of his CLAIMS were inaccurate? Well you said it yourself, they were 'claims'. Notice the definition above, a claim is a statement or assertion that something is the case, typically without providing evidence. Your claims (aka gtt's claims) are just that...claims and nothing more. How many times do we have to do this seriously?

This is Chicago's new stimulus package. Obama's crew is paying rufus per post to stimulate the Chicago economy, which is basically dead at this point.

Chicago's economy has proven to be more resilient than NYC; they've had less layoff, and housing has gone down a lot less.

Rufus, why are you talking about Chicago on NY forum? It's like olives and giraffes being compared. I can see discussing NJ or CT where people with lives based in NYC could reasonably move, but chicago isn't really an option. It is basically...irrelevant to us. Why do you post here?

kylewest, when it comes to architecture and real estate, NYC is Chicago's closest rival, among the major U.S. cities.

I personally like the buildings in BPC, but from a purely visual perspective, most of them do look the same and are indistinguishable from each other. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing. Honestly, I don't waste my time thinking about this type of stuff.

Rufus: I don't know what you mean by "rival." There is no contest I'm aware of. And this isn't an architecture forum. It is about buying and selling RE in NYC. What is happening in the Chicago market or one's opinion about aesthetics in other cities really has no relevance here. What is it you feel you contribute to these forums or that you gain from them?

Kylewest, don't bother wasting your time. There is no competition except for in Rufus' head. ANything brought up here is automatically compared to Chicago by him and then he goes off on these wild rants. Why? No clue. If I had to guess it is some sort of defense mechanism Rufus uses to quell his massive inferiority complex abut NYC.

Chicago is the best city in the whole wide world. It is the center of the universe. Richard Daley is the Messiah and can walk on water. Anyone who does not live in Chicago is a caomplete failure in life who will be dammed to Hell for all of eternity. In Chicago, the sidewalks are made of gold. Anyone who does not live in Chicago is jealous and miserable every day they wake up.

Happy Rufus?

Alpine292....how funny!!! Happy Holidays!
By the way, I've lived in BPC for more than 16 yrs and it really is the cul-de-sac of Manhattan. Just like living in the suburbs but only minutes from city life. The buildings are fabulous especially the new green ones like where I live....the Millennium. We have the Ritz Carlton Hotel and Towers next door to us and I just noticed the "orange" colored bricks!!! They look great to me! There is nothing like NYC in the world.....that's why everyone wants to live here.

prada, i have a friend who lives in the millennium at bpc, on the 9th floor and have been there many times. It's an overrated building and is not attractive at all. I guess after you live in NYC for a while, your standards just get really low.

rufus, you have to live much higher than the 9th floor!!! Ha ha!!
As far as the building not being attractive, you have to be nuts. I just love everything in my apt and I have fantastic views from a very high floor!
I would really like to know what building you really think is attractive....everything in this building is top of the line from some of the best world-wide companies.
I must say, you really like to insult everyone and everything! Since you have been here so many times, you must really enjoy coming to NYC!!!

BPC is an abortion. Why would anyone want to live there? You might as well live on Roosevelt Island. Across a highway, empty streets, zero nightlife, no good restaurants.

jgr.....One wonders why anyone would live in the suburbs then......BPC is a wonderful area, clean air, beautiful flowers....everything you have in the suburbs but still in the city!!!
By the way, we have all the restaurants in the Financial Center....soon to open great deli - on Southend Ave, Gigino, Inatteso (just opened on the south corner of the Millennium. We have it all...if you want nighlife, it's just a taxi ride away.
Happy Holidays....QUALITY OF LIFE counts!!!!

prada, first of all Merry Christmas.

But I am dumbfounded by your statement. Why is my opinion on the Millennium less credible because my friend lives on the 9th floor? It is an ugly building, and most of the people live there because they couldn't afford the nicer buildings in the city.

I actually think that too many of the buldings have no view, they just look directly at other buildings. If you have a Hudson view, that is priceless. But overall definitely quiet and that may be good for families or others who are just tired of all the noise of the city - some days I feel like that.

There are a lot of nicer buildings than millennium bpc. 15 cpw, time warner, one beacon, trump international, millennium in uws, plaza, park imperial, chatham, lucida, brompton, 101 warren, 40 bond, just to name a few.

My friend lives in millennium battery park because he got priced out of 2-bedrooms in the buildings mentioned above.
