Chicago police News Affairs Director Monique Bond said the two fatal shootings on Monday marked the city's 500th and 501st murder of 2008.
Police officers responded to a call of a person shot at 261 W. 91st St. at 5:58 p.m. and responding officers found 21-year-old Kermit Delashment face up on the ground with gunshot wounds to the left side of his body, authorities said.
Delashment, of 9113 S. Wentworth Ave, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead at 8:40 p.m.
A 15-year-old was also gunned down Monday night in the Southwest Side's Little Village neighborhood.
Esteban Martinez, 15, of 2640 S. Harding Ave., was shot at 3000 S. Avers Ave. and was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 9:09 p.m. Monday, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.
Nobody is in custody for either homicide as of noon Tuesday.
On Dec. 12, Chicago Police released crime statistics for the month of November, showing an overall increase in both violent and property crime. The sharpest increase was in murders -- up 16.8 percent from last year.
Compared to the same period last year, violent crimes -- including murder, robbery and aggravated assault -- increased by 2.6 percent overall, according to a release from News Affairs, citing preliminary statistics.

Ironically, NY1 actually reported that crime in NYC was down in all major categories....
