Discussion about
I was looking at a house in Bayside this weekend. They wanted 700,000 for a house that needed tons of work. I told the agent I would wait till spring when there was more inventory to choose from. She told me to act soon because the house I was looking at would go for much more by spring. Does this sound right?

Does it sound right to believe what a broker tells you?

She mentioned something about Obama turning real estate around. Would it not be more prudent to say prices will eventually flatten out for a while?

Would lying and saying the market was going up be better?

If she knew what she was talking about, she'd have a hedge fund of her own, a helicopter, and perhaps an original Warhol.

But instead she's hocking houses on a weekend.

Really, does this make sense?

There is considerable inventory availible in Bayside, for the first time in 10 years. There are 2-MLS systems, that service north-eastern Queens County, Libor aka stratus, and Northshore ML. I would keep looking, see what other similar homes are out there. Good luck and Happy New Year !

krglas, the broker's client is the seller not you. Get your own independent property value assessments--that's what streeteasy.com is for! You can also use ACRIS at www.nyc.gov/html/dof/html/jump/acris.shtml
and propertyshark.com
