Summer Rental Market in Decline?

Does anyone have a sense of the summer rental market in places like Fire Island? People are quoting us last year's prices for rentals and we can't believe that the prices are not going to come down at least 20%.

the-queen: I started a thread on this topic, but I put it under the "Anything" heading, which was a mistake, apparently. Because of that (I assume), it never showed up on the main discussion page, even though a few people did respond.

I too have started looking at Fire Island rentals, and have noticed that the prices have not come down from last year. I am assuming that won't last, but am curious to know if anyone has already tried to negotiate for this year.

Would be curious to hear the responses.

Also would be interested in certain towns on the Jersey Shore, although I love FI best. thanks.
