Coops that allow pied a terres

Anyone has experience on these? Are they more flexible in general? Can they complain about unattended guests? I see that many condos are making the rental rules less flexible.... If I find a coop that is pretty relaxed and allows pied a terres, what will be the downside of buying it in relation to a condo?
