Discussion about
Finally making the big move to NYC. Will be renting SUV and driving with the few things I didn't sell and pets. Would like to drive to NJ (probably Newark) and hand over contents of SUV to a moving company who will complete the move to the Financial District. This will allow me to return the rental and get the animals to the new apartment about the same time as my things arrive. Any suggestions for movers who might work with this arrangement?

Flat Rate Movers. I posted a thread not to long ago and Flat Rate got tons of great reviews. They were very good and we had a bit of an odd arrangement and they were very flexible.

I second Flat Rate Movers. They were a little more expensive up front- but I suspect that ultimately they were far cheaper. They arrived early, took excellent care of all of my possessions (even the stuff that was obviously crap quality furniture) and had their act sychnonized in lightening speed. I have moved quite a number of times in my life- and they are the first moving company I can actually recommend.

i had a horrible i mean horrible experience with Flat Rate. having moved a crazy amount of time including offices, i would recommend Moishes. also, they have NJ and NY locations i'm pretty sure. definitely get insurance whatever you do. good luck on your move.

Thanks to all of you for the information on moving companies. I will follow up on these recommendations and see what I can get going.

Sniper - Renting for now. Full service building, lots of amenities, reduced rental rate, 3 months free, no fee. Will look at buying in 15 months. I am renting way below what I can afford to allow me to put away more $$$$$ for purchase when it makes sense.
