insurance for subcontractors

Discussion about
Hoping someone knowledgeable about typical co-op policies regarding renovations can help me... If a general contractor has submitted all the necessary paperwork w/r/t his insurance, what is typically required from any subs that are used? Do they provide their own proof of insurance? Or are they supposed to be added to the GC's policy as "additional insured"? Forgive my ignorance -- I'm a beginner, and the managing agent has not been helpful in providing answers.
