Rental at 277 Gold Street

i would not rent this unit. i was told that if we passed the credit check, then we could sign the lease. we passed our credit check after paying $130 for it. we were ready to sign our lease and tried over and over again to get it signed. apparently the person who is subleasing this unit owes $10k to the building for back rent since she moved out in february, and they are trying to make her pay it... i would not rent this unit. i was told that if we passed the credit check, then we could sign the lease. we passed our credit check after paying $130 for it. we were ready to sign our lease and tried over and over again to get it signed. apparently the person who is subleasing this unit owes $10k to the building for back rent since she moved out in february, and they are trying to make her pay it in full before anyone subleases it. i offered to pay her arrears in full to help make this go through, and they asked for the $10,000 up front. i had the money to pay it, so i contacted michaela at the leasing office to see what i could do. she was the rudest, most obnoxious, and most unprofessional person i have ever dealt with. she stated "she had a stack of new leases to deal with and doesnt deal with subleases". apparently they are trying to make the last tenant default on her lease so that it is no longer valid. they will then bump the rent up to $3100 which is the market value for this apartment, and be able to make a commission since it will be a new lease. i highly advise against dealing with this company or moving into this building, the way we were treated and lied to is disgusting...its too bad too, because we actually did like the unit, but at the same time, the management is a very important factor and should no be overlooked...these are the people you look to when you have issues, and they are the ones who create your renewal contract. i'd suggest looking at the avalon next door which is exactly what we did....if you dont believe me, try and speak with the leasing office at bkyln and then go next door to avalon and see the difference in the treatment...im annoyed because we were promised this unit if we passed our credit check, so we didnt renew our current lease...we now have 7 days to find a new place to live. do not deal with bklyn gold and if you ever meet michaela you will know exactly what i mean [less]
