My partner and me have moved out of our old apartment and had found a qualified renter to take over our lease from us. The lease has about 8 more months left on it and we only resigned it because we were in contract for an apartment and couldn't get a 3 or 6 month lease from our landlord. We found a couple willing to take over our lease and while they had good jobs and financials my landlord refused to answer if they could take over the lease directly and continually forced us to deal with a property management company in the transaction. However, the property management company wanted to charge a month's rent for the new occupant. Considering our lease was not with the property management/agency I found this highly suspicious. Can my landlord force this to happen? We delivered them a qualified candidate to take over the lease and had done something similar with our prior landlord.
