O.K. we know how bad the market is for sales. If you aren't getting your asking price and want to forget about selling this year and just wait it out for about a year, well then why not rent me your apartment? I want a true 2 bedroom (no junior 4s or Flex 2's) in a doorman building on the upper east side (below 86th street). We have a child but no pets. If you've got what I'm looking for, post a brief description of your place here and how to get in touch with you (email). I look forward to renting your place!
Isn't responding to posts like this how people get into trouble? Am I going to see you on tv in the back of a police car tomorrow?
No police cars. I'm a family man and we need an apartment and don't feel like dealing with Brokers. That's it, I swear!
Try Craig's list. Call individual rental mgmt companies.
well then, try this site:

(No offense, but I doubt too many people want to meet some random person off the internet considerng what just happened in Boston)
Middletown, Ct, not Boston.
But yes--it's highly doubtful someone will want to waste time responding to an internet stranger's 'situation wanted' ad. And I honestly wonder why you'd want to waste YOUR time looking for a sublet thorugh individual unit owners, especially considering there'd likely be board approval required (if a co-op). There are good rental deals to be had through management companies--no broker necessary.
Actually, not too many apts on the market that are exclusively through a management company. all the management companies I've dealth with give their open apts to brokers. Even though they are paying the broker's fee, it still makes it necessary to deal with a broker. I find them awful so I'd rather just try to go directly to the apartment owner. What I'm trying to do is no different than responding to a "For sale by owner" ad....just the reverse.
Oh well, if no one wants to do this, I guess I will try to deal with the snakes, er I mean brokers again.
Look, it's entirely possible you will get a response. But I don't think it's the most expeditious way to go about things. Also, I can understand your aversion to brokers, but trust me when I say dealing directly with an owner can make that 'snake' of a broker seem like a kitten. Owners are, frankly a PITA. Plus, there's merit to letting someone else handle the credit check, board application (if required), and other sundry paperwork.
squid, et al.: you've convinced me. I guess I need to face dealing with a broker, no matter how unsavory.
"all the management companies I've dealth with give their open apts to brokers."
Ineedanapartment, try showing up to the management company offices. I was mistaken for a broker a couple of times, so I don't think most people do this, but they had no problem not dealing with a broker. I saw most of the major management companies in town, excepting Archstone.
anyone want to give ineed a shout out to some decent brokers? mine is Ed Hardesty at Elliman. i don't know if he and his team are doing rentals right now, but most brokers are. just find a good person, and insist that you will not pay a fee. you might do better on your own, but that doesn't sound like your style. good luck.
Fabienne Lecole at Corcoran was fantastic.
Some management co's are a pleasure to work with: Rose Associates and Glenwood come to mind. Also, I've seen a lot of listings for no fee apartments where the owner is paying the broker fee.
