See plan for floors 3-7 at http://hdl.handle.net/2027/mdp.39015012245042?urlappend=%3Bseq=135

Floors 1-2 are duplex maisonettes, 8-9 are two per floor (front and back), and there're two penthouses.

Built as a co-op. The sensible mix of sizes (fewer defaulting shareholders) helped it get through the Depression intact.

Book that NWT found and linked has amazing photos and info. Photo of facade of 439 E51st is located at page XX; floorplans are at page 98, with another great photo of the exterior of the building at page 97. Book was printed in 1926. But for cobblestone and vintage cars, view from which photo was taken remains pretty much the same today. Had not been aware that the building was designed by Van Wart and Wein.

NYCNovice, does it cost more if you use proper sentences?

GB - Look, we can't all be Kylewest. But seriously, if you want to read some well-written prose, read the text sections of book that NWT linked; it is interesting in both its substance and form.

6C is hilariously overpriced, 5C is better but still odd and pricy

I started looking at this building because of posts in the "odds of selling" thread... seems like there's a large % of apartments for sale, prices seem reasonable, but maintenance seems very high.
Interesting that some of the recent sales were from estates and trusts, and some of those were then bought by existing shareholders that now can't sell their units?!
Also he 4D listing is using a cropped version of the floor plan from the 1926 book linked above, and then the broker put a watermark on it as if they had created it!
