Discussion about
My friend is having a huge problem with mice and the building really doesn't care. She pays $5,000 a month in rent and she has to live with rodents. Really gross!

call the nyc department of health. the owner must resolve the situation or get fined. just pick up the phone and call 311. you must have proof and dates you've contacted the owner. the owner must have received the request for extermination in writing and you were refused.

Don't put up with that! It's a real quality of life issue as well as being a health hazard. Call downtown tomorrow morning first thing!

I just stumbled across this and I happen to live in this building for the past 3 years. I haven't had any problems with rodents, but I do agree the building owners/mgmt don't seem to give a shit about anything except collecting rent. However, I wouldn't be surprised if most places are like that.

While you're waiting for the cogs to turn in City Hall gets those old snap traps, they work very well. I make little "cookies" for my friends from peanut butter & oatmeal, they love 'em. Be sure to not put too much on the trigger, you have to make them work to get the treat & thus release the trap. I put the trap in the middle of a large newspaper so that I can just gather up the paper > ICK < and get it out of my house.

Think of them as pets.

I think it is more of a denial thing. It is a very nice building that doesn't want to admit it has a mouse problem on the low floors. She has little kids, so the snap trap is just not an option with a 2 year old.

Snap traps behind the refrigerator or the stove or under the sink. You may not then be able to put them on a sheet of newspaper for easy removal but ,,, Also, while you're under the sink see if there's a space around the pipes at the wall & stick steel wool in there, also if possible around the gas pipe for the stove. When I lived in Hollywood I had rats in my kitchen, a number of them, but my friend who managed the building said nobody else was having a problem. Interesting. I must have just had particularly easy access to that unit.

How's the rodent situation? I hope you're getting it taken care of. You can put those snap traps in areas where the little (human) ones won't get at them & it is very satisfying to have a cadaver. MESS WITH M-E, WILL YOU??? Do be sure to get the corpse out of your apartment, though, 'cause it won't take long to start stinking.
