The first is a random "my wife and I are close to purchasing something specific, I'm looking for confirmation from a bunch of strangers". After lots of laughs from various posters and an insistence of being "legit", said rat flips position and says by the end that they're fairly certainly on the sidelines.

In the second thread, said rat appears out of left field to take a potshot at w67th.

inonada, there is a certain poster here who seems to have more handles than i have digits. but they have a lot in common. and they (other than the comms, unless they are related to the comms) are responsible for a huge majority of the truly nasty comments directed my way over the past couple of years. oddly, although this person changes handles it doesn't change the details of its life, particularly one. and it frequently makes mistakes, using the wrong handle to respond. it was interesting. i recalled one nasty interchange, ran a search for the poster, and was stunned at the results. then ran a search for the one detail that it shared identically with another nasty handle, and those results brought up more. and then within the various threads it became apparent that said whack job was using various handles to agree with itself.

but neklok, i don't know. doesn't fit any pattern that i've found. but i have been selfishly focusing on someone who might hate me, not w67th, although i'm sure there's much overlap. neklok might be one of them, but unless (and that's a big supposition) the whack job i refer to in the prior paragraph also creates another identity, it isn't it. it's funny. the connections should have been obvious. but it took a good afternoon of searching for me to find the commonality. I found about 7 handles that i am certain belong to one person, and another 10 or so that I'd be willing to bet are. then there was that time a few months ago when new handles were being created by the second. i don't know if those relate to this person or comm or newrufus, or if they're all tied up together.

your linking hfs to rufus made me think. rufus showed up once a few months after he disappeared, it was kind of a joke, i accused 10022 of channeling rufus, and then he popped up. everyone said it was because he searches the site for his name. i don't think so. i don't think SE ever banned rufus's IP, like people here thought. i don't think rufus left. i think circumstances changed for rufus so rufus did too. if rufus finally made it to NYC it would make sense that on a NYC board he'd change. on a politics board, no need.

Does anyone remember the infamous "spunky" of a few years ago?

I was reading a thread interspersed with jimhones rants a minute ago, and the tone totally reminded me of spunky.

To my mind, the main giveaway was his absolute relentlessness, not just the nastiness/belittling. the guy JUST could not let a point drop - - he'd make his point over and over and over. Sometimes he'd reply twice or three times, building on his own argument, before the person he was arguing with would even have a chance to reply.

spunky a broker? that would be just awesome. i don't recall spunky calling people cunt all the time though. of course, over time angers can change and escalate. the comms do the multiple entries without waiting for a response also. relentless.

i have never attempted to "run" the board here. i've been around for years, and have seen bulls ascend and bears ascend and have been part of the ongoing party. there are trolls of different natures, those who create multiple identities to attack, and those who will do anything in their power to discredit a given individual or point of view, regardless of the accuracy of their "proof" or convictions.

i'm extremely heartened by what i am seeing, generally, on this board. i will admit to having been rather irritated at SE's lack of troll patrol (and i mean the very obvious troll). my very sincere appreciation for their current efforts.

ar - re: your response the other day, I am also heartened by recent trends. While I am a very big fan of SE support and sympathize with their desire not to be burdened with babysitting the discussion boards when they could be out building the business, the hfs/county thing went on far longer than should have been allowed. You were left in an impossible position - responding feeds the troll, not responding is intolerable and leaving means the troll gets what he wants.

On "running" the board, let me just suggest that one is not always in the ideal position to appreciate how one is perceived by others. As recently as a week ago, spinnaker1, typically a reasonable poster and non-partisan in the troll wars, was after you on this point. Personally, I disagree with him and think you have been measured and moderate in post volume and tone post-"farewell" and return.
