Discussion about
I have a king sized bed and (separately) a king sized mattress arriving tomorrow. How much would you tip each delivery man? Also, do you typically tip your super/handymen for padding the elevator? Thanks!

FWIW (everyone has their own idea of 'fair') I tip $20 on average for a furniture delivery regardless of the number of guy. If it is a huge item that they assemble and it takes them 20 minutes, maybe more. I grease the super at x-mas very well and he doesn't expect tips from during the year unless something truly time consuming and above-and-beyond occurs (which has been never).

I tip if someone is professional. If someone is extremely efficient - careful about not marring walls, proficient in assembling, consumate in professional attitude (would you like us to move it against the wall to see how it looks?), I tip. If someone comes in with a slam/bang attitude (it's 4 o clock and I've got to get out of here, lady) I assume they are paid appropriately by their employer.

I never gave cash (maybe I should have) but I've purchased lunch for painters and as I mentioned in a previous post, mine were Russian hired by our contractor so we dropped off a few bottles of vodka on Friday night.

The super in my building, tells the porter to put up that padding in the elevator, quite often.
Even for the smallest things that don't require it. Then, they leave it up for the rest of the day.
And, that padding stinks, from mildew.
SEND IT OUT TO BE WASHED OR CLEANED -- OR REPLACE IT, YOU DO-NOTHING-PINK-SHIRT-WEARING-NIT-WIT!!!

If you live in a walk-up, $50 per delivery guy. Elevator building, $20 per guy.

The super requires NO tip.
