Discussion about
I have a king sized bed and (separately) a king sized mattress arriving tomorrow. How much would you tip each delivery man? Also, do you typically tip your super/handymen for padding the elevator? Thanks!
FWIW (everyone has their own idea of 'fair') I tip $20 on average for a furniture delivery regardless of the number of guy. If it is a huge item that they assemble and it takes them 20 minutes, maybe more. I grease the super at x-mas very well and he doesn't expect tips from during the year unless something truly time consuming and above-and-beyond occurs (which has been never).
Thanks Kyle!
kyle: this is off topic, but do you tip painters?
i have tipped painters... i asked the owner and he said it is greatly appreciated if u was happy with the job.
Thanks, but how much?
I have never hired painters, sorry an't help here. My painters have always been subs hired by the GC
I tip if someone is professional. If someone is extremely efficient - careful about not marring walls, proficient in assembling, consumate in professional attitude (would you like us to move it against the wall to see how it looks?), I tip. If someone comes in with a slam/bang attitude (it's 4 o clock and I've got to get out of here, lady) I assume they are paid appropriately by their employer.
No.
Tip, Tip, Tip....new yorkers love to tip...anyone and everyone.
I never gave cash (maybe I should have) but I've purchased lunch for painters and as I mentioned in a previous post, mine were Russian hired by our contractor so we dropped off a few bottles of vodka on Friday night.
Ah, my favorite nurturing behavior!!!: "I took care of them, I bought them a few bottles."
i tipped $30 for my furniture, queen bed, couch, large mirror and nightstand...
The super in my building, tells the porter to put up that padding in the elevator, quite often.
Even for the smallest things that don't require it. Then, they leave it up for the rest of the day.
And, that padding stinks, from mildew.
SEND IT OUT TO BE WASHED OR CLEANED -- OR REPLACE IT, YOU DO-NOTHING-PINK-SHIRT-WEARING-NIT-WIT!!!
If you live in a walk-up, $50 per delivery guy. Elevator building, $20 per guy.
The super requires NO tip.
