Discussion about
We are looking to rent a 2 bd/2 Bath apt in NYC (preferrably Chelsea Flatiron West Village) for the month of April. We are looking for a luxury furnished apt with large square footage, washer/dryer, amenities... Do you have any recommendation? Does anyone has any experience with any building in prticular?

I used furnishedquarters.com several years ago. Not sure about their prices and units today though.

I've used VRBO for vacation rentals, and cousins used it to rent a loft on St Marks. We all were very satisfied.

LICCdope has a fire escape, if you don't mind backing up onto Jackson Avenue.

bouli, I'm happy to help if you want to pay a broker. High-end rentals are one of my sub-specialties, and at least you don't have a Hollywood dog that has to be accommodated.

Basically the overview of the market is this: it's going to come down to your budget. Courtney Love's old place (which is really cute and in the right area) is on the market for $15K a month. I'm sure there are other things you could get in the areas you like for $12K.

At the high-end, you are dealing with a network of private owners who slide in and out of the market. One problem is that the inventory isn't always where you want it -- for example, you may find the right type of thing, but it will be in Midtown. The Village in general is unlikely, because a lot of that is old nineteenth-century housing stock that doesn't have W/Ds.

If you want something cheaper, you should definitely look at VRBO and homeaway, which are the top two vacation rental sites. Then you can check Furnished Quarters, which does corporate rentals, but their pricing is going to be $$$ comparable to a hotel. Speaking of which -- for five weeks it might just be easier to do a hotel stay.

If you need me, like I said, I'll be happy to help. Just email me at ali [at] dgneary [dot] com -- please put "Streeteasy" in the subject line so I can find it.
