I think the reason for this is that in China, it's very clear how much the bureaucrats in Beijing are intervening in the economy, and people understand that any successes happen in spite of that intervention rather than because of it.
On the other hand, in the U.S., though regulation has in fact increased over time, politicians rarely admit they are increasing regulation, because "regulation" is a dirty word in our political discourse and everyone likes to believe we have such a competitive market. Thus, when the economy is in the dumps, as it has been for the past few years, the contributions of government actors towards putting it there is more or less invisible to the public, and private mismanagement by capitalists is the only thing we have to blame.
If it's democratic socialism vs. communist capitalism, smart money's on the latter.
Post87deflation, try actually looking at the results in story first. Its not just China.
Was this a comparison to the entire United States? Or just California? Or did they just ask Socialist, alanhart and Wbuttocks/MidtownerVirginEast?
