Why do you want to live in this building? Why do you like this neighborhood? How do you like your job? What do you do there? How secure do you think your job is? (Those were the questions I was asked.)

Have you done board service before? Do you plan to do any renovations? How often and how late do you entertain? Do you have pets? Are planning on getting a pet?

how often and how late do you entertain?? all residents should be required to post these publicly for the entire coop, and update monthly, or as needed. wtf.

Be prepared to answer questions about your financials. Even though they've reviewed those ahead of time, they may throw out some curve-balls or ask for clarification of specifics during the interview.

You may want to look at some prior threads discussing this exhaustively. You can search "board interview" under discussions, or start with these:

It all depends if Matt is sitting across from you at the table.

Your broker should do a practice interview with you if you want it.

Good questions to practice: Why are you moving? Why did you pick this apartment? Do you know anyone in the building? How would you pay for the apartment if you had trouble with your job/business? What do you do when you're not working? How are you involved with the community?

Why do you want to live here? Where else have you looked? Tell us about your jobs. How long have you been in your industry? Working at your job? How do you like it? Are you contemplating a career change? Are you from New York? If not, where are you originally from? What are your hobbies? What do you like to do in your spare time? Do you foresee wanting to take a leadership role here within the building community?

What's the right answer on the board interest / leadership question? Do they prefer you to be active or do boards find interest in governance threatening?

Ah, that's the joy of it! You've got a 50/50 shot at answering correctly.

Some boards find it a plus. Some find it a minus.
