I went and saw the 02, 04, and 06 line of apartments in this building that they are now releasing. Most of the finishes were interesting and the layouts in 02 and 04 were decent but 06 had a really funky layout. Additionally in the 02 line you walk in directly to the kitchen. Not how I envision a 3M+ apartment. Lastly, I couldn't believe that there was no place in the kitchen for a microwave.... [more]

So if you want one it has to be on your counter. Weird. While I did like the building and the location. I found some of the layout issues confusing and wasn't thrilled with all of the finishes. Oh, and they told me that in addition to the gym, bike room and storage cages (for purchase) there will be a dog washing "station". Maybe it is just me, but I thought that was sort of silly.

fwiw I have found many new high end kitchens do not come with microwaves. I don't necessarily agree with the decision but it is not uncommon.

That's because rich people understand that microwaving your food is unhealthy.

cmpizz, I saw several units there, and I think I felt a bit differently about the space than you did... I was truly shocked that they all felt cookie-cutter-ish...which is unusual for these higher-than-average-priced new conversions--because they tend to offer interesting use of space. The finishes made me feel as though I were in a Pottery Barn store, but I am sure many people like that style. I also wonder why they opted for stoves (as opposed to cooktops) in some of the units. Still, the biggest problem for me was the location...
icu, I agree with your assessment. In NYC, where most people would probably find microwaves more valuable than ovens, that can make it difficult for them to sell.
I think the Setai in FiDi was another development to offer no built-in microwaves--and their counter- or under-the-cabinet space seemed quite limited. At another development (around W 52nd x 8th?), they provided no built-ins but gave us an option to place a microwave in one of the cabinets. Of course, that would have meant that you'd be giving up the precious cabinet space...

Again, rich people don't want microwaves, so I don't see them being "difficult" to sell without them.

I looked at a studio there; considered bidding. Was told it was "in contract" but a more expensive one was available. Two weeks later the original one was listed at a higher price.
Don't know if someone really dropped out or not; either way the building is selling incredibly well
Finishes were OK; not super high end

Tribeca rich also means families, families need microwaves. Healthy or not.
