Discussion about
Is it me or are the ceilings really 8 feet there ? http://streeteasy.com/nyc/building/18-gramercy-park
A little bit higher. The plans with a cross-section are at http://a836-acris.nyc.gov/DS/DocumentSearch/DocumentDetail?doc_id=2013040100054002. They're fuzzy, but show a floor-to-floor height of 9' and a few inches. Figure 9"-thick slab, and they'd be about 8.5'.
That jibes with the kitchen photos, if the base cabinets are the standard 3' high.
It was built as a Salvation Army hotel in the 1920s, so wouldn't have run to high ceilings.
The close column spacing is also a problem. The big rooms are long and narrow, e.g. 14'x37'. For $18 million you should get a living room 20'x30' with dining room in proportion.
Thank you NWT. And that s not counting the beams (they don't look very nice, but filling them would make the ceiling look even lower), I just read somewhere else that they stand 7'6'' above the floor. Is there somebody who records price/cubit feet ? This must be a record.
And in other design constraints -- the PH master only has 1 bathroom whereas the lower floors have 2 so no sharing the crapper in cheaper units.
key to gramercy park
A key to Gramercy Park is nice (though I am not sure I would price it more than a couple of thousands), but most of the buildings around there have one too, you can get one with an apt with normal ceilings, and probably for much cheaper. But location is superb yes.
