Discussion about
we're going to move to the UWS and I'm looking for a daycare (fullday) for my toddler. I haven't found a lot offering fullday in the usual listings but sometimes they're not all listed. would you have recommendations / names of daycare below 80th St?

I tried urban baby once. With few exceptions, it's basically a magnet for obsessed overbearing mothers who have little to do all day but to either ridicule other's life-making decisions or chime in with useless information on topics entirely unrelated to parenthood. The board is also set up and run in an almost stream of consciousness sort of way. You'll post a question and within a minute there will be 20 other random questions/comments superceding yours and since it's anonymous - there's no way to track what's going on or who is saying what.

Basic Trust on 99th is great. I know several people who have sent their children there.

I hear you about Urban Baby -- and it has gotten worse since the redesign -- but it is probably worth a post because you might find the UWS mom who has recently tackled this problem.

www.gocitykids.com might be a good resource for you too.

West81st has a point. How old is the toddler?

The problem is, you may find someone who gives you an apparent useful recommendation but then 4 people will rip apart that recommendation, 3 people will criticize you for not getting a nanny which will enflame a debate about nannies and rich UWS snobs, and then someone will chime in about ways to preserve an unused half of avocado (I just checked the site and this is an actual current topic). You'll have no idea who is saying what or how useful any of the information is and will end up with bad avocado preservation recommendations.

Slee - Spend 5 minutes over there and you'll come running back here and start appreciating the rent/buy debates and steve's rants.

my child is 2.5 yr old - I've looked at gocitykids.com which is pretty helpfull but I was down to around 2 full time daycare options, of which the brownstone school .. completely booked already. any comments on the daycare program at YMCA on 63rd?

There's an excellent pre-school program that operates (independently) in the basement of Holy Trinity Church on 82nd. A bit north of your range, and the minimum age might be three, but it's worth a phone call.

I second LP1's recomendations for Riverschool at WEA and 63rd. Its fullday for infants thru kindergarten.

I've tasted avocado ice cream once and it was really nice.

The way you preserve an unused half of avocado is to rub lemon juice on it and wrap it with the pit.
