These all seem like thoughtful changes to improve safety. Some people will whine because they don't like to pay for improved safety. That's understandable, it's just not cool in a city like New York, where one persons house fire becomes any other people's problem in a matter of minutes.

Even if the "lofts need real front doors" rule is interpreted strictly, it only applies to buildings above 75'. That won't affect the majority of the 5-6 story loft buildings. It's pretty rare already even in the taller buildings as they tend to chop them into multiple units. It's also a good idea. Slowing the spread of fire...

The one I don't understand is "no more scissor stairs". I'm guessing it's not about fire, because they are allowing 4" of the riser to be open.
