Discussion about
I'm sure I'm not not the only one who gets these. But I find them annoying on two levels, first I'm sure they are contrived and not genuine and second that brokers are trying to encourage me to move and generate two commissions on my end. The form letter I speak of goes something like I have a client that wants an apartment or missed out on one just like yours in your building. Please contact me

Yes. They are indeed dishonest with broker looking to sign you up for a sale. The client does not exist.

How about naming the brokers sending these letters on this thread?

One broker called me directly with this pitch. I told him stop trying to evict me and then called his boss who I knew and told him in clear terms to take my name off the cold-calling list. And I don't rate this so much as "a big problem" as a peave

Or the cards advertising a nice looking property when it actually closed months ago and the sq.ft. is overstated 50%.

I haven't received anything I thought was misleading or an outright lie. But come on, in the big scheme of things what with unwanted junk mail (those stupid ValuePack mailers), e-mail spam, blow-in subscription cards in magazines, pop-up subscription boxes on virtually every single web site, etc., *this* is the thing that twists your knickers? Be flattered that the broker thinks you're worth sending material to (or live in a suitable neighborhood), throw out the card, and move on.

Mailers and postcards (complete waste of money and undifferentiated) are not even close to annoying compared to if you decide to list For Sale By Owner traditionally --- then you'll also get cold calls and emails all day long. This article tells you how terrible it is: http://observer.com/2016/09/the-biz-of-the-fsbo/

I wonder if Hauseit sends postcards. Would be an interesting lineup: Sell for 0% commission vs ....

Sigh. And I hear fellow home owners telling me that brokers still like to tell them that paying 6% is some sort of mandatory law ..

How about this: 3 months after closing, I get a mall from the brokerage who represented the seller, thinking my listing has languished on the market, and offered to help me sell it.

FireDragon - that's nuts, so you're definitely going to go with them when you sell right :-) ? In all seriousness, what would you consider in the sale process? From forums it looks like you recently bought property through Hauseit right

Since renovation is such a headache, I decided to make the apartment our forever home and not worry about selling it at all :)
