Discussion about
http://www.streeteasy.com/nyc/building/230-west-55-street-manhattan Anyone know anything about this building? It appears to be a rental building, but all the listings are through RE agents. I'd obviously prefer to avoid paying the fee if there's a way to deal directly with the building. Prices are all over the place, which is a bit weird. Some 3-bedrooms with balconies are listed for under $5K, which sounds pretty good to me. Thanks in advance.

Apartments are big and nice. The "D" line faces Broadway. Balconies start on floor 4.
The two bedrooms (B) face 55th street. There is major construction of a 39 story office tower on the west side of these units. One agent who lives there tells me it's OK if you go out to work all day; if not the noise is from 8:00 to 5:30.
Sometimes they are no fee if you inquire from the site listed above.
Open the rental application on the website and get the direct number for the managment company (otherwise it looks like it tells you to call Fenwick, an agency). I called them a couple years ago when we were looking and they were happy to help, but didn't have any listings at the time to show me.
Thank you for the help/advice. Any thoughts on the prices all over the place? Or the under $5K 3-bedrooms, which seem almost too easy?
In any case, I will call them directly on Monday, and hopefully look at some apartments. Thanks again.
Reopening an old thread, in case anyone else is interested. Finally got around to calling the number on the rental application and they directed me to the broker. Apparently, they have no in-house leasing capabilities, and do everything through brokers, but they pay the fees. Fair enough.
Saw a couple D line 3-bedrooms there last week. The broker said the ones listed for $4K and $4200 are gone, which seems weird, but not sure what incentive he'd have to lie about that.
The one listed for $6K is finishing up a very nice renovation of everything, looks much nicer than the other one we saw, plus has a washer and dryer. Still not sure it's worth such a huge premium, though.
The other one we saw was plain but perfectly functional.
Layouts and balcony are great. Very good use of space.
The construction next door is a very real problem, even in he D line (we have a young kid, so someone is home during he day). The noise in the D line is not debilitating, but definitely noticeable, even on the high floors. Clearly worse the lower you go, which may explain the $4K apartments on lower floors.
Overall, the $6K apartment seems overpriced. The other ones appear pretty good deals if you don't mind the construction noise.
