Discussion about
Sprinkled among the misfits on this board there are some pretty smart/creative folks. Not real estate related, necessarily, but curious to hear what people are thinking are some attractive plays in this equity market? Frankly, I have no problem sharing my investment ideas because (i) they're not particularly insightful and (ii) nobody's buying anything now anyway. As the pain continues to pile on, a high-risk potential home-run play could be 9-12 month way out-of-the-money SPY options. Problem is given the VIX, options are not cheap. In terms of straight stocks, JPM, HON (<9x, >3% div) are very appealing. Companies with net cash or low Debt/EBITDA that have already managed earnings down would strike me as great buys also. Thoughts?

Lots of bargain out there now, but it is too early to jump in.

Why not buy those utility's preferred shares? At their market value now, they pay you 12%-15% interests per year and it is quite safe.

I would agree that the dust has not settled. Volatility remains way to high. Unless you are glued to a trading screen, I would wait to see how this shakes out. However, there may not be a very big window to go long, so nevertheless pay reasonably close attention.

Sorry, meant to say "managed earnings expectations down", i.e., revised guidance or reported a bad quarter.

Given volatility as high as it is today, rather than buying SPY call options, it might be smart to buy long dated put options on the VIX. Volatility has a higher chance of coming down than a recovery in the index within a year IMHO.

I'm buying houses on those crazy palm shaped islands in Dubai. It's a 'sure thing.'

Sizzlack:

Accurate Building Inspectors.

The gentleman to ask for to do your inspection is Mr. Lawrence Ubell.

Lawrence (Larry) truly is the very, very best in the business. In 20+ years, I've never worked with a building inspector more knowledgable, nicer, or more professional. I just can not recommend him highly enough. Wonderful, wonderful people.

SSO... double long S&P.

We're talking about buying opportunity of the decade. And, hey, if I'm wrong, it doesn't matter... money won't be worth anything anyway.
