Hi all, Anyone here have any insight on street parking in Long Island City/Hunter's Point? I know there is no alternate-side parking, but how easy is it generally to find parking? I usually only drive on the weekends (often just saturday or just sunday), so I'm hoping that this might also help. Thanks, kcw984

Parking in Hunters point (for now) is very easy. You can almost always find parking on you block and if not you will def. find something within 2 blocks. With all of the development (once it actually fills up) it's bound to change, but for now it is probably one of the easier places in the city to park.
Parking a car anywhere in NYC means that Bloomberg's jackbooted robocops will ticket you incessantly.

No, parking a car ILLEGALLY means that.
@alanhart: speaking of illegality, did you report your $635,000 capital gain on the sale of 371 West 117th #4D on your 2007 income tax form? Since you are a person who respects the law, certainly, the IRS would take a keen interest in getting its share of that capital gain.
Of course.
Yeah, I definitely know about the fine for not having an emissions sticker; got one last year for an outdated sticker.
It sounds like parking isn't too bad in the area though. Anyone else have any thoughts?
@alanhart: Oh come on, you know you did not pay a penny of capital gains tax on that brilliant flip. Show me the math: you bought that place for $200K in 2003 and sold it for $835K in 2007. Sure, you can build up your cost basis to say $250K for closing costs and capital improvements. Then you can reduce your sales price by say 10% for taxes, brokers fee and closing costs. That gives you a $751.5K sales price less a $250K buy price, or a $501.5K capital gain less a $250K exclusion. That is a $251.5K taxable capital gain. At a 15% long term capital gain rate, you owed $37,725 to the US Federal Treasury. How much did you pay? I know you paid $0, so just admit it.
What's my marital status? If I were really hot like you, I'd two spouses, and be able to take a $750K exclusion.
*have* two
@alanhart, that is a brilliant argument in favor of polygamy just to get the tax breaks.
When I bought your apartment from you in August 2007 you were not married and were living alone with your cats, but you are probably the type of guy who would rush a sham marriage just to skimp on your taxes.
Maybe the cats got an exclusion too. Although in truth I'm not responsible enough to have cats.
Move your car.
