Discussion about
Has anyone gone through the renovation process at Seward Park co-op? We might be moving to the LES in a year or so. Many apartments that we saw are in original details. We are wondering if it's worth buying an apt that needs complete renovation. Some co-op boards are particularly slow and difficult in terms of approving renovation projects. Can anyone offer any insigths as to how long it would take in one of the Seward Park buildings?

The management company for Seward Park is Greenthal and they are excellent. Helen handles all paperwork and approvals and she is very efficient, as is everyone else I've dealt with in the office. The work I did on my apartment wasn't as extensive as what you're planning, but I had no trouble. At her inspection following the reno she wanted to know how I felt about my contractor should he come to her attention again. Compared to what I've read on other renovation threads here, their fees are reasonable.

One thing to be aware of, they follow the 9-5 work rule very closely, and all loud work needs to be completed between 10 and 3. Since there are a number of stay at home Moms and older people in the buildings, you will get a call at 3:15 if there is still drilling or pounding.

You can probably call the management office in advance and ask if they will provide you with any more information before you make your decision.

I love it here. Good luck.
