Discussion about 53 Broadway in Williamsburg
After 12 months living in this building I cannot wait to move out. Let´s start by saying that the issue is not the rent, which is pretty much comparable to other buildings in this area. The issue is that the management is terrible!!! If you are considering moving into this place I recommend you check blogs like curbed and brownstoner which covered the rent strike that took place a couple of months ago. We were tired of management not addressing issues like strangers entering the building, things being stolen from storage rooms, disgusting urine soaked carpets, $700 electricity bills for a 1-BR.... the list goes on. Save yourself a headache and look somewhere else. It´s no coincidence that so many units are becoming available after the first year.

Aboutready lives in Williamsburg and her hubby is a lawyer.
Anyone dumb enough to pay $5,000/month to live in Williamsburg deserves what they get.
I didn't realize that rents were that high in Brooklyn. You can rent apartments those sizes at 1601, 1619, 1623, and 1641 Third Ave, 3rd Ave. at E 90 to 92, the Ruppert/Yorkville Condo, with the same upgrades for those prices! If I were paying those rents, I'd rather live closer to Museum Mile and Central Park.
PS. Gas and electricity are included in the RY Condo rents.
Yes, but an "exciting new life" isn't included. The intended market -- i.e., people who wouldn't gag at reading that -- isn't going to notice the water heater next to the washer/dryer, and so isn't going to wonder who's paying for it, and go on from there to wonder who's paying for the heat.
Or see the cars stacked four high and three deep, and wonder how they'll get their own car out when they want it....
Lived here since it has opened-
MGMT company is really bad- The carpets are urine soaked, and the utility costs are a bit crazy... but overall people seem nice and have figured out how to keep electric costs down... Don't love the cost but too much of a hassle to move
The gas has been out since March '22. The landlord & management company says they're working on it, though no results & ignoring communications from residents. Tenants have had to issue 311 housing complaints, start a formal petition, rent strike, & consult legal council. They continue to rent out units despite this and other issues:
• Outdoor building intercom system has not worked since '15
• No outgoing mail for years
• No camera in the elevator
• No longer a live-in super; super only at the building 1-2 a week
• Gym is not up to code (holes in ceilings) & unsanitary
• Game/Rec Room is unsanitary & non functional (pool table & sticks are broken); Locked all the time despite a sign referring to open hours
• Many residents do not have key fobs; Super's solution was to put a MasterLock on the main building door
• Interior has not been refreshed (painted) since '15
• Building windows are not cleaned often
• Most tenants have individual apt issues that have not been resolved in years
• 1 of 3 of the doorman is constantly sleeping & mislabeling packages
